A + D

Most fairytales include some key characters; the Prince, Princess, some enchanted field animals to help them navigate life and well in this story, we would be remise not to include the creepy clown.

Rewinding back to August 2016, if you were keen on pop culture at the time you’d probably recall the oddly eerie trend of killer clown sightings across the United States. Well, as you can imagine in a small town like Selinsgrove, PA where we both attended undergrad at Susquehanna University – there was no shortage of interesting people, doing interesting things to fill their time. One night, during our first semester on campus the students received a timely warning urging us to stay indoors or seek shelter because there was an “individual dressed as a clown, potentially wielding a weapon spotted on campus”.

Devin, not being one to take instructions well, decided it was now the perfect time to depart Smith Hall from a visit with best friend (and Maid of Honor, Arianna) to return to Reed Hall for the evening… however, a crippling fear of clowns (and maybe a bit of shove from Arianna) led her to asking Andrew, otherwise known as “that boy that’s always smiling at me in the 3rd floor common room”, for an escort back to her residence hall. The 5-minute walk was a preview of the next nine years, aka Devin yapping away as Andrew smiled and rolled his eyes.

The fairytale continued on, except instead of a horse drawn carriage prancing through the enchanted woodlands — it was a white jeep avoiding potholes at 3AM on the way to Denny’s to share chocolate milk and smiley face pancakes. Those sweet field animals we mentioned, yep, we’ve acquired a few of our own along the way… 3 cats and 2 dogs to be precise. And while there hasn’t been a grand ball, we’ve watched our fair share of baseball… and if you ask us, that’s as good as it gets!

Through these nine years we’ve had our fair share of adventures. We’ve graduated from Susquehanna University, jumped to yet another small PA town and built a life there while Devin completed her Master’s Degree, found ourselves portraying the military cliche sharing our love only through letters while Andrew took a leap with the United States Army, we’ve found our love for camping (okay, glamping.. but still!), we’ve shared some of our happiest moments as “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” echoed in the background … and now here we are, about to take our next step together again. All thanks to some clown.

While our fairytale may have some unique differences from those crafted in the storybooks, one thing will remain the same… They lived Happily Ever After
